A Disney Wedding - Felicity and Chris

I was very privileged to attend this gorgeous bride Felicity on her wedding day last summer, to help her and her bridesmaids into their lovely outfits.

We supplied outfits and accessories for the bride, bridesmaids, groomsmen and both the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom.

Felicity and Chris were married at All Saints Church in Hastings old town, and had their reception at the Cooden Beach Hotel.

The dress she chose is our style "Sophie" and the bridesmaids wore a combination of minty aqua satin and ivory.

The grooms outfits complimented these with a combination of the bridesmaids colours in their waistcoats and ties.

The bridegroom Chris did some modelling for us many years ago, and both Felicity and Chris work at Euro Disney in Paris.

What a lovely couple they make, and what a beautiful day it was.

Thank You - Alex Tomlins

We received this picture and great review from Alex Tomlins.

Alex was married to Peter on the 11th April at Port Lymne Zoo.  Alex was driving past Anne Marie Bridals and saw her dream dress "Jolie" in the shop window and fell in love instantly and just had to have it.  We also supplied her beautiful fingertip length veil and diamante tiara and bridal shoes.  Her gorgeous vintage style brooch bouquet completes the look beautifully.  Alex wrote this review for us :

"Amazing service, lovely staff and so helpful at every visit.  Made me feel like a princess, like every bride should. Thank You!"

The Designer Room is based our Hastings store, Bustles and Bows.

We are a specialist Designer Wear showroom, established in 2009 to cater for the increasing demand for such an outlet in this area, and now have regular customers from Kent, Surrey and Hampshire as well as our home county of Sussex.
We stock many of the leading designers – Condici,  Linea Rafaelli,  Luis Civit,  Basler, Pronovias, Gloria Estelles and Presen to name but a few – in sizes ranging from 8 to 32, and in addition we also have a wide range of hats and fascinators to perfectly complement your chosen outfit.

The “Designer Room Experience” includes personal, attentive, and unhurried service, honest unbiased advice and helpful suggestions, taking as much time as you need to make the right choice.
We are also great believers in making the most of the outfit you purchase by offering tips on how to mix-and-match with other garments you may have already in your wardrobe.
We offer a personal fitting and alteration service from our highly qualified in-house couture dressmaker who can also colour co-ordinate your hat and accessories.

One of our greatest delights is when clients come back to share pictures with us of their special event; we can ask for no better recommendation than that.

We can guarantee you a warm welcome when you visit THE DESIGNER ROOM and Bustles and Bows.

Thank You - Million Dollar Hannah

We love it when our happy customers decide to share some pictures and send us letters of thanks! This one was received from one of our brides "Hannah Auer (was Duff) who was married on the 7th June 2013 at Leeford Place.
Hannah chose a beautiful mermaid shape dress named "Tierney" and teamed this with a cathedral length crystal edged veil and a sparkly Gatsby style side headdress which we think complimented the dress perfectly we think Hannah looks absolutely stunning, definitely a million dollars!
Following is the letter and pictures that Hannah was kind enough to share with us.

"Hi Anita & Helen,

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for all of your help & advice & everything you did for me in the lead up to my wedding day. Anita, for suggesting the beautiful dress that ended up being the one & the veil which was just amazing (the photographer liked the veil so much, he stole me away from the meal to get some pics of it while the sun was setting) & Helen, for the alterations & suggestions for the perfect accessories. We had the most perfect day & the weather was beautiful without being too hot.
I felt a million dollars & can't stop looking through
the pictures! I want to do it every day now! :)

Anita, I promised you some photo's of it all put together, so here they are & again, thank you for all you did. I will definitely be recommending you to friends & family & anyone else who'll listen! :)

F.A.Q

Advice when wedding dress shopping

How far ahead should I shop for my wedding/bridesmaids dresses? How long does it take to order a wedding dress?

We would suggest you start looking for your wedding dress approx 1 year ahead of your wedding date and you should not start shopping for your dress until you have your wedding date and your wedding venue booked and confirmed, the reason we say this is because the time of year and the type of venue you choose to marry in will affect your choice of dress, for instance a bride who is travelling abroad to get married is going to want a completely different dress to a bride who is having a traditional church wedding.  You may think a year ahead is too far ahead, however, most bridal designers will take approx 5-6 months to deliver a dress to us once you have chosen your dress and placed your order and of course it may take you several months to make up your mind which dress you would like and then of course we would like to allow a couple of months for final fittings and alterations. Bridesmaids dresses take approx 4-6 months to come and we usually allow approx 2 months for fittings and alterations.  If you don’t have a year to shop for your dresses, please don't worry, we always do our best to find you a dress in the size and style of your choice and some of our suppliers do offer rush orders, although this will generally incur an additional fee, so if you have the time it is generally better to order well ahead.

Will I have to pay for my dress/es all at once?
No, the usual ordering procedure is a down payment of 50% of the value of your dress and then the remaining 50% will be due for payment when your dress arrives in store.  Your wedding/bridesmaids dresses must be paid for in full before we will commence on alteration work to your dress/es.  We do offer a number of payment plans but this will depend of the amount of time you have available before your wedding.  If you were to purchase a shop sample, in other words off the rail then you will be expected to pay for the dress in full.

Are alterations included?
Alterations are not included in the cost of the dress unless we have specified this at the time of ordering. We offer a full in-house alterations and fittings service at all 3 of our stores, and our staff are all experienced and qualified professionals.  You will be advised when you come to your dress fitting of what work may be required and we can usually give you an estimate of what the alterations costs may come too at this stage,  we have a minimum fee of £40 for bridal alterations and a minimum fee of £30 for bridesmaids alterations.

Who shall I bring along when I come to try on dresses?
We would always recommend you don't bring too many people with you, usually 1 or 2 people is enough and preferably a close friend or relative, (i.e. your Mum, sister, close friend) someone whose opinion you value and trust.  We have had occasions where brides have come along to try on dresses with 5 or 6 people, in our experience this is seldom productive for either the bride-to-be or for us, as there are too many conflicting opinions and the bride-to-be will find it hard to concentrate on herself and what she would like. Much as we love children, we would suggest its best if you can avoid bringing them along, small children quickly become bored and you will not want to be distracted by their needs whilst making such an important decision as choosing your wedding dress.

Shall I bring my bridesmaids along with me to my bridal appointment?
We would recommend you don't bring your bridesmaids along to your first bridal try on appointment,  we would prefer you to concentrate on choosing your wedding dress first, we are more than happy to make a separate appointment for your maids once you have chosen your wedding dress as this is often a better way of doing things as sometimes the wedding dress style may set the trend for the bridesmaids dresses style and can also sometimes set the colour scheme etc.,

Can I take photographs?
We fully understand why people sometimes feel the need to take photos, but unfortunately do not allow it for  several reasons, the first being copyright issues, the second being in our experience it is not helpful as you will end up with so many images of yourself in so many different styles it  becomes completely confusing, and thirdly unless you have a professional photographer, the correct lighting, your hair and make up done, chances are these images are not going to be good.  This is why we recommend you concentrate on the styles of the dress and how you look and feel in them rather than collecting up loads and loads of images. You are always welcome to come back for a further appointment to try on your favourites again and there is no substitute for actually trying on the dress with one of our experienced stylists on hand to help advise you and answer your questions?

How long will my appointment be for?
We usually allow approx 1 hour on a Saturday and 1 - 1.5 hours on weekday appointments, for a first try on bridal appointment, in our experience this period of time is long enough to allow you to try on a number of different shapes and styles and once you have narrowed your choice down to 2-3 dresses we will then give you the details and prices for those dresses and invite you to come back in a few weeks to try those styles again.  If you have visited both our stores and seen a dress in both shops that you liked we will also offer you the option of having both dresses available in the store of your choice so that you can make a direct comparison (this service is subject to availability, in other words if someone else has already requested to try that style at the store where the dress is usually stocked then you will need to book another appointment on a different day)

Do I need to bring anything along with me to my appointment?
If you have a strapless bra this can be helpful when trying on strapless dresses, we would suggest also bringing along a pair of heels if you intend wearing heels on your wedding day as this will help give you an impression of how the dress will look  on the day.  We would suggest you wear light coloured underwear if possible.  It can also be useful if you intend to wear your hair up for your wedding to have it styled in a similar way when trying on headresses and veils and keep make up to a minimum as most of the dresses are put on over your head and make up can sometimes rub off onto the dresses.  Our course these are all just suggestions and we are quite happy to offer a pair of our shoes to try on and if you are wearing your usual bra we would generally just tuck in the straps where necessary.

Will you have my size?
We keep a range of sample dresses in both stores in a range of sizes, these dresses are for brides-to-be to try on and then once you have made your choice you will be measured and a new gown will be ordered from the dress designer, this dress will usually be made in the nearest standard size which matches to your measurements and then altered to fit if necessary when it arrives?

What happens if I lose/gain weight?
We understand that it can sometimes be difficult to maintain exactly the same weight at all times, and always try to be sensitive to the needs of our customers.  In the past we helped  many, many customers who have lost/gained weight due to health issues, diet, pregnancy and a number of other factors.  So please be assured we will always try our best to be understanding and helpful and if you have any worries or concerns then speak to a member of our staff who will be happy to help and advise you of the options available.

If you have any other questions/concerns please feel free to contact us we are always happy to help.

Thank You - A Family Affair

A Family Affair for Bridal Stylist Claire

This was a very special wedding for us here at Bustles and Bows, especially for Bridal Stylist Claire, who's Dad was the groom!

It was an honour to help his lovely wife find her dream dress. Here is what she has to say about her experience with us at Bustles and Bows:

"Dear Claire, thank you very much for helping me to choose the perfect wedding dress.

You kindly suggested that I try different designs to see how they would look. Your suggestions showed me looks I had never considered, and really allowed me to explore all of my options. You were very patient and gave me time to think, my head was much clearer after some consideration. You were so helpful and guided me thoughtfully to choose the right dress.

On my wedding day I just loved my dress, it made me feel so special. I got a lot of compliments! The dress fitted and suited me perfectly thanks to the alternations you did. I was so lucky to find Bustles and Bows for my dress. With many thanks,
Yukari"

Bluebird Bridal - Part One - The Shimmy Dress

Here at Bustles and Bows, alterations and customisation of dresses is a BIG part of our lives. We spend many many hours downstairs in our sewing room transforming customer’s dresses into one of a kind creations, and making their dresses fit like gloves. This is something that we adore doing and when we’ve got the time and the opportunity, we just love to get creative.

This is how The Bluebird Collection idea began, we had some dresses that we felt could use a new lease of life. Sometimes they are vintage gowns, sometimes they are just samples in gorgeous fabrics that have gone unappreciated... until now.

The dresses in The Bluebird Collection will be taken apart, and reconstructed creating absolutely one off, up cycled designs, just waiting to be snapped up by one very lucky bride. This is a real chance for us to let our creativity run wild.

It is with this in mind, then, that I am excited to share with you the very beginnings of this project with: The Wiggle Dress.

You see... we have this oh-so-simple fishtail gown... which is lovely, of course, but we felt she had a little more snap crackle and pop hidden within her fibres than she was letting on. So we decided the best thing to do was to chop of her legs (gasp!) and cover her in gorgeous fringing.

You could say that The Great Gatsby has been somewhat of an influence on us.. (If you hadn’t known that we had this idea months ago, that is!) but the timing is perfect, and we thought you might enjoy reading about the process of this gowns fabulous transformation.
